Have you ever wondered how your school counsellor knows which universities abroad to recommend? In May, twelve international education counsellors from around the world visited Czechia to find out first-hand what studying here really looks like – and why it might be a perfect fit for you.
Over two inspiring days, they explored three universities in Brno and Olomouc, got a feel for student life, and learned all about study programmes, campuses, and application processes. The visit, organised by the Study in Czechia team, was the first of its kind. It aimed to strengthen international partnerships and offer a first-hand experience of Czech higher education.
What did they see?
On the first day, the group toured Brno University of Technology – including its Faculties of Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Communication. Then they continued to Masaryk University, where they visited the Faculties of Economics and Administration, and Social Studies. In the evening, they attended a University Fair featuring representatives from 12 Czech universities who presented their study programmes, application processes, and student support services.
On the second day, the group got a closer look at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Medicine, then travelled to the beautiful historical city of Olomouc, home to Palacký University. There, they explored the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine.
The programme was designed to showcase the diversity and quality of Czech higher education institutions and to give our guests a real taste of what studying in Czechia can offer.
"It’s been a great opportunity to really learn more about specific academic programmes that students are looking for and that are not always the most accessible on other markets. Whether financially or just the selectivity. I think there are a lot of opportunities that are presented by the universities here. Many of the institutions that we’ve learned about I was not familiar with. It is a great opportunity to be exposed to them and then to present the options to the students I work with."

Why is this important for you as a student?
The job of a school counsellor is to provide academic, career, and personal development support to students. They help you navigate your educational journey, choose the right courses, prepare for university, and deal with academic challenges. They also work with your teachers and parents.
"I help the students understand what they want to do in their life, what they want to be in 10 years after graduating from college. I can back engineer it and say ok, if this is what you want to be, this is the training that you need. If these are your academics and this is your financial income status right now, these are the amazing opportunities that you can look at.“
